If you are looking for a fun night out in Downtown Boise then head to the Bitter Creek Alehouse at 246 N.8th Street that uses local and sustainable produce as much as possible. Supporting no fewer than 43 local farmers and producers you can feel good about eating here and there is an impressive range of local beers on tap and local wines to try. The grassfed burgers are a real local favourite and we were blown away by the mouth-watering smoked Idaho trout that comes with horseradish fromage blanc and housemade crackers. We were tickled to hear that when Bitter Creek first opened the owner’s dad used to catch the daily trout in the Boise river! The apple and walnut salad with candied walnuts was also delicious. If you like a cocktail with your meal try the Red Feather Lounge also at 246 N. 8th Street where the kitchen serves local and seasonally inspired cuisine including inspired salads (grilled kale Caesar),woodfired pizzas made with local heirloom sauce and delicious seasonal mains including sockeye salmon with truffle oil and traditional favourites like mac and cheese and shepherd’s pie. If you are after some locally-made gifts then head to Idaho Indie Works at 106 N 6th street, an etsy-inspired store that operates as an artists’ co-operative offers work from 21 local artists who also offer classes to the public. In a similar vein, Bricolage at 418 S 6th street features handmade T-shirts, bags, prints, postcards and other accessories from local artists. Although Tony’s Pizzeria Teatro at 103 Capital Boulevard is not organic, we have to mention it as Tony – a chef from Naples falls into our 'artisan' category and produces absolutely delicious Neapolitan-style pizzas that get rave 5 star reviews from locals and visitors alike. If you are after a farmers market head to the Capital City Public Market at 80 North 8th Street on Saturday mornings where you will find a selection of fresh organic fruit and vegetables on offer. Look out for Peaceful Belly Farm, Rice Family Farms, Lazy Dog Gardens and Next Generation Organics or try some organic wine from the Holesinsky Organic Winery.
