One of the most popular tourist destinations in Boston is Cambridge – home of world famous Harvard University. After you have wandered around Harvard Yard soaking up the history and high IQs we have several suggestions to where you can recharge in an organic fashion. The local Whole Foods Market can be found at 115 Prospect Street and comes with the usual extensive range of organic produce and a café. Although smaller than most, it rates well with the locals who like the salad bar, the range of ready breakfasts and lunches, the fresh produce and the friendly staff. A second option for organic groceries is the locally owned Harvest Co-op at 581 Massachusetts Avenue which draws praise for its support of local farmers, it’s extensive bulk food section and choices for gluten-free eaters and vegans. If you are looking for lunch or organic fair-trade coffee then try the Clear Conscience Café that sits at the front of the Harvest Co-op. The café strives to serve all natural food – organic where possible and fair-trade coffee. Choices include an all-organic veggie Panini, organic soups (with vegan options) and salads. Amongst the variety of baked goods the peach coffee cake is particularly popular. For a fantastic eco-friendly gift drop into Greenward at 1764 Massachusetts Avenue, near Porter Square. Run by a locally-owned by a husband and wife team, Greenward has an extensive range of eco-friendly gadgets, toys, homewares, gifts, jewellery, stationery and much more. A seriously impressive store to warm any eco-warrier heart. If you are looking for a great place for dinner then book a table at Henrietta’s Table at 1 Bennett Street. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Henrietta’s makes a point of using local and sustainable produce and is proud to offer traditional New England cuisine. If you are visiting the area on a Friday or Sunday the Charles Hotel hosts a Farmer's Market in Charles Square. (1 Bennett Street) Sundays 10am-3pm and Fridays 12pm – 6pm. Find local, sustainable produce including some organic options.
