Known for its restaurants, cafes and active nightlife Palermo Hollywood is an area of Palermo that came to be called this in the mid-90’s when a number of TV and radio outlets moved into the area. Part of the original organic scene in Buenos Aires, Bio Restaurant at Humboldt 2192 (recently moved from 2199) Palermo has a philosophy of ‘simple conscious cuisine.’ The food is fresh, healthy and locally sourced. Choose from salads, soup, curries, empanadas, burritos and desserts. Each Monday night is turned over to internationally inspired cuisines. A produce store sells a range of organic goods including tea, oil, olives, eggs, biscuits and wine. They also run organic cooking classes. Kensho at El Salvador 5777 is owned by Buddhist chef and sustainable food advocate Maximo Cabrera and opened in August 2010, offering stylish organic and vegetarian fare that has received positive reviews in the New York Times and the Argentina Independent. Billed as a ‘healthy oasis’ dishes are prepared with exclusively fresh, local, and seasonal products without the use of additives or preservatives. A careful selection of organic, biodynamic and traditional wines are on offer. Or treat yourself to a cocktail at the bar. Smoothies and juices also available. Buenos Aires Verde at Gorriti 5657 serves 100% organic fare. With a passion for sustainable living and healthy eating, genial Owner/Chef Mauro Massimino has created a delightful, friendly, relaxed atmosphere and also a space to experiment organically with 'raw food' dishes. Enjoy indoor or outdoor dining and choose to take away. An adjoining store sells a range of organic produce including oils and pastas. The owner of Meraviglia at Gorriti 5796 brings her love of an organic lifestyle to this café and store and buys her food from local producers. The cafe serves sandwiches, salads, pastas and freshly-baked cakes and desserts. There are also juices, smoothies, coffee and green tea. We enjoyed the ice tea with mint and ginger syrup – delicious! If you are cooking for yourself then stock up on provisions at the adjoining store which has pasta, baked goods, eggs, tea, oils and more. Another option in Palermo Hollywood is the restaurant Artemisia at Gorriti 5996 is run by a husband and wife team who are passionate about natural, chemical-free food and use organic produce as much as possible (70-80%). Choose from a seasonal menu that includes salads, soups, tapas, pasta and fresh crusty bread and foccacia. There are also organic wines, juices, tea and coffee.
