For a real community organic experience visit the member-owned Dublin Food Co-op at 12 Newmarket Street, Dublin 8 – near St Patrick’s Cathedral. The co-op is open Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays and offers an organic shop selling a great range of organic food, dry goods and sustainanble household and living products. If you like the idea of an organic farmers’ market then have a chat to around 20 member producers who attend to sell an assortment of their organic, local and artisan produce. We attended on a Saturday - the main day for organic produce – and found a buzzing friendly place. There was certified organic yoghurts, cheeses, breads, muffins, local organic wines and fresh good quality fruit and vegetables. If you feel like an organic meal, there is an organic café serving breakfast and lunch options. A bustling, friendly place with stallholders who are happy to talk about their organic growing experiences. For another local experience try The Farm at 3 Dawson Street, City Centre South – adjacent to Trinity College. Family-owned and born from a desire to serve healthy, local and seasonal food, The Farm is a bright, popular and welcoming organic restaurant that uses as much organic produce as possible including organic tea, coffee, milks, eggs, meat, cheese, wines and beer. Chicken is free range and vegetables although not organic are locally grown. We tried an organic goat’s cheese and melted onion tart with crisp salad and it was delicious. The manager Tony is happy to advise you on choices and explain organic options. Open on Saturdays from 9.30 to 3.30 the SuperNatural Food Market is a producer’s market located in St. Andrew’s Resource Centre, Pearse Street, Dublin 2. Choose from organic groceries, fish, bread, cosmetics and eco-cleaners. SuperNatural also has its own label, organic, wholefoods and healthfoods.
