Central Hobart

The devilishly good Jackman & McRoss Bakery at 56-59 Hampden Rd, Battery Point, where the largely organic freshly baked breads and pastries change daily according to seasonal availability and the chef’s inspiration. Try and sample the goat cheese tart - order it to take away and sit at the water’s edge across the road for a classically Hobart experience. In nearby Sandy Bay, try the RAW Natural Foods Store at 118 King St. The deli, grocery and café are all stocked with large ranges of local and mainland products. The gluten free beer and the cheeses are definitely worth a try. If you’re after a range of organic cleansing and beauty products as well as food, head to City Organics at 34 Criterion St, winner of the best Tasmanian organic retailer in 2010, and with the quality and selection this is no surprise. Another place for the broad organic experience is Eco Haven at 7 Murray St Hobart. They stock the widest range of eco friendly products ranging from food to clothing and is a must see if you're in the central Hobart area. If you’re looking to buy in bulk we would recommend Eumarrah Wholefoods at 39 Barrack St, Hobart. The museli is a must try, and all the produce is of the highest standard. You will save quite a bit of money buying in bulk but this doesn’t mean ridiculous volumes – quantities can be discussed with the friendly staff.
