If you are enjoying the well-heeled streets of the Upper East Side and are looking for a place to have lunch, stop in at the Candle Café at 1307 Third Avenue. With a dedication to healthy, vegetarian cuisine, you can choose between organic salads, sandwiches and burgers, soups, appetizers and desserts. The soba noodle salad with creamy wasabi dressing was a sensation. If you are on your own, take a seat at the bar and you will be very well looked after. Also offering a great selection of juices and smoothies, this place was definitely one of the best we found in New York. As one online reviewer wrote, ‘’oh my (vegetarian) god!” For a more upmarket experience try the sister restaurant Candle 79 at 154 East 79th Street – with it’s organic wine and sake bar it has twice rated as Zagat’s #1 vegetarian restaurant. Le Pain Quotien can be found at 1131 Madison Avenue uses as much organic produce as possible and has a range of sandwiches and pastries to choose from. If it’s organic pizza you are after, try Slice at 1413 2nd Avenue where you can enjoy pizzas made with organic ingredients and free-range, hormone-free meats. Spelt and rice crusts are on offer for those looking for gluten-free options. If you are interested in organic and natural baby supplies head to Metro Minis at 821 Park Avenue where they have a large range of organic, natural baby products for your (or someone else's) little ones.
