Located in the heart of Tokyo's high fashion district Omotesando, Crayon House food store and restaurant at Kita-Aoyama 3-8-15 is the perfect place to do your organic shopping or treat yourself to a unique buffet style meal. The store boasts a large range of imported and locally produced western and eastern products including fresh produce, alternative sweeteners, baby food, dried fruit, dairy products, coffee, bread and bakery treats, noodles and sauces. At the restaurant the quality of the food is unparalleled, especially considering the unbelievable ¥1,250 price tag. Do not be fooled by the 'buffet style' - all food is 100% organic, created from seasonal produce, cooked hourly and the menu changes each day to keep it interesting. We had tofu, potato salad, lightly fried sweet potato balls, pickled daicon, seaweed and carrot salad, grilled fish, brown and white rice, miso soup and a bean sprout/cabbage/pork salad. All options are labelled vegan/vegetarian/egg/ poultry. Clearly a hit with the locals as we were the only westerners in the place and we could have spent hours stuffing ourselves in this relaxed environment. If you are after a more upmarket experience for say a dinner or special lunch, Mominoki House is just a stone's throw from the trendy Takeshite shopping strip of Harajuku at Jingumae 2-18-5, Shibuya-ku. A little more upmarket than Crayon House they offer a mixture of western and Japanese dishes with faultless service and nice ambiance. Macrobiotic food is also available on request. We chose the vegetable gratin with soy cheese and it was delicious. At the front of the store there are a few items you can purchase such as books on the “eco movement” and items to greenify your house.
