Choose a work of latte art or cup of coffee brewed individually on the Clover. Breakfasts and pastries are also made with organic ingredients, but you might save your appetite for the Public Market on Granville Island (1661 Duranleau Street). A foodie’s paradise, the Public Market has everything: organic produce, fresh seafood, free-run non-medicated chicken and organic meats, plus bakeries, delis, and much more. Edible Canada at the Market (1596 Johnston Street) shows there’s more to Canadian food than maple syrup. The shop stocks organic chocolate, coffee, and local artisan-produced foods, and the bistro emphasizes seasonal, local fare. After a walk or bike ride around Stanley Park, re-energize with a creamy Choco-Gorilla almond shake at Gorilla Food (101-436 Richards Street). Like every creation on the multipage menu of this jungle-themed café, it’s organic, raw, vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free. Or go raw like a Vancouverite and indulge in organic sushi. Shizen-Ya (985 Hornby Street) uses organic brown rice and veggies and Ocean Wise sustainable seafood in creations like the Sakura Blossom Roll, and offers organic beer, wine, sake, and tea. If it’s Thursday, take SkyTrain or valet park your bicycle at the Main Street Farmers’ Market (Thornton Park) for organic fruits and veggies fresh off local farms. At Kitsilano Daily Kitchen (1809 West 1st Avenue), Chef Brian Fowkes lets what’s fresh in local markets and farms - often organic ingredients – inspire a new six-course tasting menu every day. For less formal, family friendly fare, Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company (1876 West 1st Avenue) serves hearty pizzas and fresh pasta made with organic flour and topped with organic house-made tomato sauce, market-fresh vegetables, and locally raised meats.
