The adjacent neighborhoods of Dupont Circle and the U-Street Corridor are two of the city’s trendiest areas. Both have a rich nightlife, full of restaurants, clubs and bars, and the edgy U-Street Corridor is especially known for its abundance of jazz venues. Organic Jetsetters won’t have trouble finding a good organic meal here either. For a special night out, try the fashionable Restaurant Nora (2132 Florida Ave., NW), which became America’s first certified organic restaurant in 1999. Popular with environmentalists and politicians, the restaurant offers a 95% organic menu sourced from local farms, and includes a range of memorable creations from grilled grass-fed ribeye mignon to sustainable shrimp ceviche. Enjoy a more laid-back dining experience at Café Green (1513-17th St., NW), an full-service organic, vegan restaurant that adheres to eco-friendly principles right down to the paint on the walls. The menu includes gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free and raw options from local sources. Looking for the funky side of D.C.? Don’t miss Busboys & Poets (2021- 14th St., NW), an award-winning restaurant/bookstore/ stage/cinema/internet café. Founded by an Iraqi-American seeking to create a community space for progressive-minded, environmentally-conscious people, the spot is a great place to nurse an organic beer, wine or coffee while browsing or enjoying a performance. For ethnic fare, you’ve got two options: Coppi’s Organic Restaurant (1414 U St., NW), which features organic, regionally-sourced northern Italian cuisine, and Mr. Chen’s Organic Chinese (2604 Connecticut Ave., NW), which serves organic vegetables in classic Chinese dishes. To cook-your-own, head to Whole Foods Market (1440 P Street, NW) for their usual organic food and houseware offerings. But a more fun alternative is the Sunday morning FRESHFARM Market at Dupont Circle (20th St. NW between Massachusetts and Connecticut Aves). Only about half the stalls at this lively farmer’s market are certified organic, but given the beauty and range of the bounty offered, you won’t be disappointed.
